My Hilarious Travelogue

Airport Survival: 4am Edition

IMG_1527Dare I say I’ve had an epiphany?

Granted, it’s somewhat nuts to say that I’ve had much of anything after I’ve gotten up at four o’clock in the morning besides groggy eyes and a grumpy attitude, but it was during this particular early morning dash to the airport that I think I finally figured out how to endure all of the minutiae that normally makes air travel such an horribly excruciating experience!

You see, I couldn’t help but notice … after our travel, anyways … that one of the benefits of being ridiculously sleepy, as one tends to get when they only manage an hour and a half of sleep before getting up for an extremely early flight, is that you tend to overlook a lot of the details about your surroundings.  Such details as abysmal customer service and a lackluster flying environment and even comically tragic security measures – given enough sleep deprivation, pretty much all of those sparkling moments of the air travel experience can be little more than groggy blips on one’s journey towards eventual slumber.

Some examples, for your consideration:

Lady Just Standing There on the Moving Sidewalk - DIDN'T go off on her for blocking the entire path...

Ridiculous Security Warning - just sort of chuckled in passing rather than invoking "security theater" rant

And much like those classic, late night movie marathons where everything gets increasingly hilarious the later it gets, the same applies around the airport as well!

...like this crazy, germ-a-phobic toilet seat!

...or this trippy fish ad from AT&T!

Of course, there was one downside to this little experiment…

...this "breakfast sandwich" from Quiznos was somehow perceived as "edible."

That said, mild stomach pains aside I think this was still a solid win for traversing the “friendly skies” while also keeping my own sanity in check … with the condition of actually being able to sleep upon reaching your final destination, I would definitely recommend a good, solid all-nighter to anyone dreading their next flying adventure.  Sometimes the best approach to interacting with other people is simply to be completely and totally oblivious to your surroundings … maybe Cheech and Chong were on to something after all.

Now if only this same technique also applied to road trips…
