One last glimpse at an amazing road trip, here’s a small gallery I put together of photos that didn’t quite make it into the Photo Blog … enjoy!
A special thanks to everyone who ordered a copy of the book as part of the promotion that I offered with this little series over the last few weeks. The photo tour gave me a great chance to incorporate the book into my long overdue vacation, and I had a great time taking all of the pictures along the way, not to mention picking out the free gifts to go along with your orders! I certainly hope that you enjoyed them as a meager token of my appreciation for your support!
Below is a little slideshow that I threw together of all of the photos taken as a part of the three week tour – looking back, it’s still hard to believe that we managed to visit so many places! I hope you enjoy this final summary as I attempt to exit vacation mode and finally get back to work, although for what it’s worth, I think I’m already looking forward to the next one…
…the next vacation and the next book, that is!
The Complete Spectacular Itinerary:
* Goodnight, book! – our first night’s hotel in Downtown Atlanta, GA
* Georgia Aquarium – home to some awesome whale sharks in Atlanta

* White Castle – the very first time I tried this tiny delicacy, somewhere in Ohio
* Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland – the largest Christmas store in the world, in Frankenmuth, MI
* Mom’s House Back Home… – a photo of a very young me with my late sister, Lisa
* My Hometown of Gaylord, MI… – a creepy statue of dude from the local summer festival

* Science North – a hands-on science center from my childhood, in Sudbury, ON (Canada)
* Science North – Dinosaurs! – a special exhibit featuring furry dinosaurs at Science North
* Harry Potter: The Exhibition – behind the scenes of the movie series at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto, ON (Canada)
* Niagara Falls – a beautiful sight, even up really, really high, in Niagara Falls, ON (Canada)
* Tim Hortons – my new king of breakfast sandwiches, last enjoyed in Niagara Falls
* Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory – the mecca of frosty frozen treats, in Waterbury, VT
* The Big Apple – as seen from the (relative) safety of my brother-in-law’s boat
* Statue of Liberty – a unique view of lady liberty from the water
* Hershey’s Chocolate World – the next best thing to winning a golden ticket, in Hershey, PA
* Washington Monument – the first of several stops along the National Mall in Washington, DC
* Lincoln Memorial – at least honest Abe gets to sit down after all of those steps…
* National Museum of American History – so huge we’ll need a second trip to visit the other museums!
* South of the Border – a gift shop on steroids on the North Carolina / South Carolina border…
* Walt Disney World – …because a vacation without Mickey Mouse really isn’t a vacation at all!
* Back Home Again… – one last check of the speedometer some 4,550 miles later…
What a long, strange, amazing and wonderful trip it’s been!
And with a grand total of 4,550 miles on the speedometer, we finally pulled back into our own driveway some 22 days since we had seen it last. With our wallets a little lighter, our car considerably more packed with the addition of many, many souvenirs, and our house thankfully not looted after being basically abandoned for the month of August, it was time for the road trip of all road trips to come to an end.
What can I say – after so much awesomeness, eventually everybody has to go back to work!

One last stop over at Mickey’s place…
Let’s face it – even after being gone for 3 weeks and having driven over 4,000 miles, driving by Disney World without stopping for me would be like savoring a delicious, 22-course meal and then passing on the dessert! Besides, between dinner, fireworks, and a swanky, upgraded room at the same resort where my wife and I spent our honeymoon a couple of years ago, it was the perfect ending to an absolutely amazing trip!

Well, south of a border, anyways!
What can I say?! The wife insisted that we stop and visit Pedro, and visit Pedro we certainly did … by means of browsing one of his many gift shops for a good five minutes, that is! Anything more, of course, would’ve been hogging his time from the rest of his loyal patrons, but if you happen to be cruising I-95 along the North/South Carolina border yourself, do be sure to stop in and see what all of the billboards are raving about…

Meeting a true American icon…
We had such a great time exploring the first Smithsonian museum that we came across after visiting the Lincoln Memorial, we never even had time to get to any of the others! Well, one down and eighteen more to go, I suppose – plenty to do the next time we come to visit our nation’s capital…

“Did you say Abe Lincoln???”
I wanted to climb on up there and read good, old Honest Abe a few excerpts from chapter 7, but I think his security detail would have disapproved of that…

Fun Fact: The Washington Monument towers a breathtaking 555 feet in the air, however George Washington himself was actually much, much shorter…
The last time I visited Washington, DC, I was probably about six and my most memorable moments were almost getting hit by a cab and flying a toy helicopter that I had gotten from the gift shop at the National Air & Space Museum.
This time around, we didn’t have enough time to make it to that particular branch of the Smithsonian, but then again, on the upside we didn’t end up getting almost hit by any taxi cabs, either! Still had a lot of fun, though, between wandering another awesome museum and also walking the surprisingly long distance between the landmark you see above and the Lincoln Memorial at the other end of the National Mall.
Spoiler: There’s a reason why Lincoln is sitting down in his memorial!
More capital-related fun over the weekend, and don’t forget, time is running short to get your own piece of this amazing road trip book tour spectacular… Why not order today and lock in your special gift before I get home and collapse in sheer exhaustion?!

Let’s just say I was like a kid in a, well, you know!
I first visited the chocolate holy land when I was but a wee child, and although of course I have almost no memory of the activities that transpired, I’d like to think that the hefty chocolate purchase that I made as an adult this time around would’ve done that younger Scott proud!

Whether Lady Liberty actually is naked underneath that toga still remains a mystery some 21 years later…

If I can make it there…
As seen from my brother-in-law’s boat while bouncing around out in the Hudson River – a beautiful day for lounging around and generally being lazy, even with the little bit of sunburn that resulted. More patriotic fun tomorrow!

The Humor Column never tasted so sweet…
What better place to take a wife who absolutely loves ice cream than the veritable mecca of frosty frozen treats?! And at a mere three buckazoids to see the place that cranks out 250,000 pints of Cherry Garcia (and 64 other flavors) every day, this tour was a very cool bargain and well worth getting totally lost the night before trying to get there…

One last stop at a Canadian institution…
After five days in Canada, if there’s one thing that I learned, it’s that Tim Hortons. Is. Awesome! If I could trade every Dunkin’ Donuts in the Tampa Bay Area for a single Tim Hortons, I’d do it in a heartbeat and never look back.
Please, for the love of your delicious, new Cheddar Cheese Bagels, come farther south in the U.S. – you have friends here!!!

It really makes you stop and think … boy, do I really have to pee!
Also, a very much afraid of heights special edition bonus pic from 175 feet up…
Your international, somewhat soggy reminders…
The Monster Book of Monsters finds a new victim…
Of course, this brutal attack actually took place in the gift shop at the end of the exhibit, about an hour after getting chosen for Hufflepuff by the Sorting Hat and seeing six movies worth of Daniel Radcliffe’s clothes … my, how our little wizards grow up so fast!
As Always…
Now this was a close call!
And if you can imagine yours truly jumping three feet into the air upon learning that Mr. T-Rex here was actually animatronic while trying to take this photo, it’ll be just like you were actually there at the exhibit with us!
Seriously, though – one of the better dino exhibits that I’ve seen in a long time. Kudos, guys!
Also, a quick reminder:
Our first destination in Canada (aside from a Subway for dinner and our hotel, anyways), Science North is just a very cool, hands-on science center that yours truly has fond memories of as a child…
They also currently have an awesome exhibit on dinosaurs that they’re hosting, but more on that tomorrow!
Don’t forget…
Fun Fact: Many years ago before I moved to Florida, I took a tour to the top of the second tower shown below for a newspaper article I was writing at the time, and let me tell you, standing 552 feet above the water is quite the feat for someone who’s not particularly thrilled with heights!
Don’t forget – free gifts for anyone who orders a copy of my new book in the next couple of weeks!
Also, be sure to check out the new Photo Blog Book Tour Archives for a fun recap of everywhere I’ve been so far. Don’t worry – there’s still plenty more left to go…
A rare photo with the Burglemeister, or Burgermeister, or whatever the heck this not-at-all creepy dude from Alpenfest is called, anyways!
And remember – order your copy of The First Seven Years Are Always the Hardest… during the book tour and receive a special gift from the road for your support!
I promise it won’t be anything creepy like a bobble-head statue of this dude or something…
It’s almost hard to believe that the strapping, young lad in that photo grew up to be me…
The next leg of our tour takes us international as we travel forth into the land of arctic winter that is Canada, so be sure to order soon if you’d like a little piece of loot from way up north included with your copy of The First Seven Years…! Who knows – maybe I’ll just send you some Canadian currency because, well, the way the US dollar is heading these days…
Maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll find a copy underneath your tree this Christmas…
Then again, why wait until Christmas when you could just buy a copy for yourself right now, plus get a free gift from yours truly to boot?! Don’t leave it up to your friends and family and/or Santa Claus – order today and ensure your own hilarious amusement for months to come regardless of whether you’ve been bad or good this particular year…
My book and I share a new first…

An old classic poses with a new classic…
Got to see how Coke is bottled, got a picture of me and the wife with the Coca-Cola Polar Bear, and even got to see a big screen version of my favorite Coke ad of all time – very cool place, indeed.
And of course, remember that every copy of The First Seven Years Are Always the Hardest… ordered during this book tour will receive a special gift as my way of saying thank-you! Christina, a reader who is currently stationed with our armed forces over in Iraq, will be receiving a little something from The World of Coca-Cola along with her order … and you could be next! Order today!!!
9 out of 10 whale sharks LOVE my new book!
Not so much with piranhas, though…
Simply put: the Georgia Aquarium was awesome. Go for the whale sharks, stay to continue checking out the whale sharks…
